Requesting Accommodations

Please complete ODS registration form and submit Certificate of Disability Documentation Form. See our Getting Started with ODS page for more information.

Once documentation has been received and accepted, please contact the ODS office to schedule an orientation. If you do not live in or near New Orleans, the orientation may be conducted by telephone. You will need to have access to a computer with an internet connection during the orientation.

Once the orientation has been completed, you will have access to ODS Online Services so that you can make requests for accommodations online each term.

Login to ODS Online Services to make your accommodation requests.

Please review the following specific steps necessary in obtaining accommodations for Online students.

Alternative Testing

When students request Alternative Testing accommodations each semester, ODS notifies faculty. The student should contact the faculty member if they encounter an issue with receiving their accommodation.

Students are responsible for reviewing the course syllabus to determine if a proctor is needed for their exams and completing the Exams and Proctoring Form to designate a proctor if necessary.

The professor will send the proctoring information to ODS so staff can complete a testing agreement. The student can then schedule their exams through ODS Online Services. Students must follow ODS timelines for submitting exam requests in a timely manner.

Please review Chapter 5: Alternative Testing in the ODS Student Handbook for more detailed information on testing policies and procedures.

Questions can be directed to ODS at 504-520-7607 or email disabilityservices@xula.edu.

Note-taking Services

Typically, a notetaker is not provided due to the nature of online classes.

Alternative Formats

Please contact the ODS at 504-520-7607 or email disabilityservices@xula.edu.

Videos/DVDs/internet clips used in Online courses that have an audio component must be captioned when students who are Deaf/hard of hearing are enrolled in the class and have requested the accommodation. If you would like auditory information provided in Online courses captioned, select “Accessible Audio/Video” when making requests for accommodations on the ODS database.

Please contact the ODS Coordinator at (504) 520-7607 (voice) or the disabilityservices@xula.edu (email) for assistance if any online courses are inaccessible to you.
