XULA Green History

XULA Green, although in its infancy of sustainability work is excited to meet the challenge of helping our climate, campus, and people. In the first year, we completely reinvented our waste management system and created a comprehensive campus recycling program, highly successful today despite Materials Recovery Facility Closures throughout America.

We host a series of annual events, including Earth Week Celebrations, Global Recycling Day, Recycling Awareness Month, Bike to Work Day, World Climate Teach-in. We are dedicated to working with campus students, faculty, and staff as well as the surrounding community partners to develop living-learning opportunities centered around our built environment.

Our office strives to connect environmental initiatives at Xavier and in New Orleans to create comprehensive programming and long-lasting impactful change. We recently expanded our campus recycling program to include cardboard baling and added new recycling sorters around campus, after receiving Keep Louisiana Beautiful funding. We also received funding to install Electric Vehicle charging stations to add to New Orleans Alternative Fuel Corridor. Over the next two years, we have ambitious goals set forth, including decreasing campus landfill waste, creating storm water management infrastructure, and developing a bike share program, outlined in our Campus Sustainability Vision Plan for 2021-2023.
