LCME Accreditation Status
Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine (College) was granted preliminary accreditation by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) in October 2026. The LCME is the accrediting body for medical education programs leading to the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in the United States. Preliminary accreditation is granted to a developing medical education program that has demonstrated sufficient progress toward compliance with LCME standards, allowing the program to begin recruiting and enrolling students. The College’s recognition as an LCME-accredited medical school establishes its students’ eligibility to participate in the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and, upon graduation, pursue graduate medical education programs.
The College’s next LCME review, part of a multistage process, will be for provisional accreditation in academic year 2028-2029, when the first entering class is in the second year of the curriculum. For programs granted provisional accreditation, the LCME typically conducts the review for full accreditation when the first entering class is in the final year of the curriculum, anticipated for the College in academic year 2030-2031.
