Programs Offered

Welcome to The Department of Speech Pathology

The Speech Pathology Department offers two programs of study, undergraduate and graduate. The undergraduate curriculum provides students a thorough pre-professional foundation in theoretical and practical knowledge of human communication and disorders. Students who successfully complete the program are awarded the Bachelor of Science degree and are prepared for graduate study in speech-language pathology or audiology and for a limited number of career opportunities in speech-language pathology or audiology.

A Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology is the entry-level degree needed to practice clinically as a speech-language pathologist. Therefore, the Master’s program curriculum provides students with necessary knowledge and skills for successful professional clinical practice. It adheres to the Council on Academic Accreditation’s (CAA) standards which outline a comprehensive list of knowledge and skills necessary for successful clinical practice. The knowledge and skills assessment (KASA) is the guideline used in academic and clinical experiences for Master’s students enrolled in the program. The Department’s standards for graduate student performance are in keeping with College of Arts and Sciences standards for graduate education and in some cases exceed those expectations.

New Program Council on Academic Accreditation

The Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology (MS, SLP), a residential education program, at Xavier University of Louisiana is a Candidate for Accreditation by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech- Language- Hearing Association, 2200 Research Boulevard, #310, Rockville, MD 20850, 800-498-2071 or 301-296-5700.
