Xavier University of Louisiana has partnered with Ochsner Health System to advance the education of its students via a new Physician Assistant (PA) Program*.It is a 28 month master’s degree program that has a 12- consecutive month didactic phase, and will include 16 months of clinical training within the Ochsner Health System. This event will celebrate Xavier expanding to provide more experiential opportunities for students as well as the acknowledgement of applications being accepted for the inaugural class of 2022.
Welcome to the Xavier University of Louisiana Physician Assistant Studies Program. The Physician Assistant profession is one of the top five fastest growing careers. This is an exciting time to be in medicine as advances in medicine are moving at an incredibly fast pace.
Xavier University of Louisiana Physician Assistant Program offers a Master of Health Sciences curriculum that provides students with depth of knowledge in the basic medical sciences and clinical medicine, as well as skills in administration and research. With these expanded skills, graduates can take advantage of the wide diversity of positions available to PAs.
- Recruit and select diverse and highly qualified applicants who can complete the rigorous Master of Health Sciences in Physician Assistant Studies.
- Develop a curriculum that prepares students for a PANCE pass rate that is above the national average.
- Educate physician assistants that practice patient –centered health care in rural and underserved communities.
- Deliver an educational experience that prepares graduates to collaborate on inter-professional teams.
- Comply with ARC- PA Standards to obtain and maintain accreditation from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistants.

*Xavier University Physician Assistant Program is in the process of applying for Accreditation-Provisional from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Xavier University anticipates matriculating its first class in January, 2020 pending achieving Accreditation-Provisional status at the September, 2019 ARC-PA meeting. Accreditation-Provisional status is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appears to demonstrate the program’s ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards or when a program holding Accreditation-Provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for the graduation of the first cohort of students.*
*Xavier University Physician Assistant Program will not commence in the event that provisional accreditation status is not received. Students are accepted on a conditional basis. In the event of non-accreditation a refund of applicable tuition deposits will be returned to those students.*
