Jeremy Jordan, a junior at Xavier University of Louisiana, was named a recipient of the Victory Capital Scholarship. The Victory Capital Scholars Program was launched as part of a strategic alliance with Xavier University to award direct financial support to Xavier students for expenses not covered by existing grants or awards. The partnership emphasizes inclusivity as a critical component towards diversifying businesses and creating better employment opportunities for African American students. The scholarship is awarded based on need and merit for students with a declared major or minor in Business or Finance. As a Finance major, Jordan is thankful for the Victory Capital Scholars Program as it has been greatly beneficial during his time at Xavier.  

“Xavier is grateful for the support that Victory Capital is providing for our students,” said Dr. Reynold Verret, President of Xavier University of Louisiana, about the partnership. “With their diverse holdings and forward-thinking business model, Xavierites interested in finance, management, and business leadership could learn a lot from their experiences. Victory Capital’s investment in the talented young women and men of our institution allows for the opportunity of our students to explore new avenues of growth and achievement.” 

Growing up, Jordan witnessed his father work with numbers for his business. He realized his love of numbers and finances and was inspired to pursue a Finance degree. Jordan found the Victory Capital Scholars Program to get a great fit as it caters to advancing opportunities for Black students in the financial industry. Both Jordan and his mother were happy to learn he was the scholarship recipient. 

“By taking action to promote equity and social mobility, we can advance students of color while building a more robust pipeline of high-quality candidates to fill future jobs in the financial industry,” shared Victory Capital CEO and Chairman David Brown in a press release announcing the program last year. 

A New Orleans native, Jordan shares that his decision to attend Xavier was not difficult given his familiarity with the university. In high school, Jordan participated in Xavier’s Pre-College Program; for close to 50 years, the program has provided middle and high school students with summer opportunities for academic enrichment, mentorship, and career exploration. Jordan has enjoyed his Xavier experience as he’s been able to become more knowledgeable about his interests, such as finance and business.  

“I was always interested in the business aspects of things. I grew up around many people who were in business, such as my dad who owns his own business,” shared Jordan.  

The Victory Capital scholarship has positively impacted Jordan’s college experience, serving as a motivational tool. It has encouraged Jordan to keep his studies at the forefront to qualify for additional scholarships and opportunities. 

“The scholarship has helped make me more attentive to things I need to do because I know that maintaining my grades and GPA helped me get this opportunity,” Jordan said. “I know that I’m blessed to have gotten the scholarship, and I’m grateful I was able to receive it.” 

Following graduation, Jordan plans to start his financial career as an accountant to achieve his goal of becoming a financial analyst. Jordan has found Xavier to be a great contributor to his success through exposure to scholarships and Xavier’s ability to push him to be the best version of himself for all future endeavors.  

“Xavier has prepared me on how to be the best person I need to be in life and to not settle for what I want to do,” expressed Jordan. “When I first came to Xavier, I just focused on graduating to get my degree and get a job. Now I’m planning to graduate, but to also go to graduate school and get two degrees. Xavier has made me want to excel in life.”
