Xavier University of Louisiana’s College of Pharmacy (COP) announces that its Academic Enrichment Program (AEP) has been awarded certification as a Level 1 Certified Tutor Training Program by the internationally recognized College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). This prestigious certification marks a significant milestone for the program and reflects the College’s almost 100-year commitment to providing high-quality academic support services for its students.
For over 30 years, the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) has been a leader in supporting learning assistance, reading, and academic enrichment programs. CRLA’s membership includes nearly 1,300 institutions and over 2,000 certified training programs worldwide, setting rigorous standards for the development of tutoring programs. The CRLA’s certifications help maintain a high standard of excellence in tutoring and ensure that each program continues to support students in their academic growth. The COP’s Academic Enrichment Program now joins these ranks with a Level 1 certification.
“It is a tremendous honor to have our College of Pharmacy’s Academic Enrichment Program recognized with this certification,” said Dr. Kathleen Kennedy, dean of the College of Pharmacy at Xavier University of Louisiana. “The Assistant Director of the Academic Enrichment Program has worked hard to develop a tutor training program that meets CRLA’s rigorous standards and has successfully completed the International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) peer review process”.
The Academic Enrichment Program staff diligently designed a tutor training program that aligns with CRLA's comprehensive standards for tutor selection, training, service, and ongoing evaluation. The program was specifically developed to provide COP students with academic support and assistance, including counselor meetings, study schedule development, peer tutoring and mentoring, seminars, and course-specific review sessions. By demonstrating its ability to provide exceptional tutoring services that help students excel in their academic endeavors, the AEP was awarded this international certification that underscores its commitment to high-quality service and its mission to develop healthcare professionals who are leaders in their communities.
"We are excited about the future of the Academic Enrichment Program and are committed to continuing our partnership with CRLA to ensure our tutors remains equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to help their peers succeed," said Dr. Kennedy, “This is one of the ways we will fulfill our mission of serving the underserved to ultimately improve the health outcomes of all people in our communities.”
