Biography
After a Paul Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship at the National Gallery of Art and Smithsonian Institution in 2024-2005, Dr. Jiang became Assistant Professor of Art History in the Honors College, Florida Atlantic University (2005-2008) and Assistant Professor of Museum Studies at Southern University New Orleans (promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in May 2012).
At Xavier, Dr. Jiang was Director of the Confucius Institute (2012-2020) and Interim Director, Center for Intercultural and International Programs (2018-2020). Under Dr. Jiang’s leadership as the University’s Senior/Chief International Officer, Xavier established a Study Abroad Endowment Fund in 2019. The University received the 2020 Diversity Abroad’s Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion in International Education Award, and the 2022-2024 IDEAS (Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for U.S. Students) Grant from the Department of State to increase study abroad participation. He was one of the inaugural U.S.-ASEAN University Connections Initiative Fellows, a White House Initiative in 2022. He is dedicated to serving students, faculty and staff, including guiding F-1 students, assisting J-1 scholars, and helping U.S. students in successfully applying for such prestigious scholarships as Benjamin A. Gilman, Critical Languages, and Frederick Douglass Scholarships.
Dr. Jiang serves in the Publications and Resources Committee, AIEA (Association of International Education Administrators, 2022-2025). He was an AIEA Leadership Academy Fellow (2020), and a member of the Tennessee Williams & New Orleans Literacy Festival Board of Directors (2020-2023).
