Dr. Trevonne M. Thompson is a tenured professor of Emergency Medicine and Medical Toxicology at the University of Illinois Chicago where he is also the head of the Division of Medical Toxicology within the Department of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Thompson is board certified in Emergency Medicine and Medical Toxicology and practices both specialties at the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System (UI Health). Dr. Thompson is the Associate Dean for Admissions at the University of Illinois College of Medicine.
Dr. Thompson is a past chair of the Emergency Medicine Section of the National Medical Association and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the American College of Medical Toxicology. Dr. Thompson serves as a consultant to the Illinois Poison Center and is an associate editor for the Journal of Medical Toxicology. Dr. Thompson actively conducts research in emergency medicine, medical toxicology, and medical education and has published dozens of peer-reviewed manuscripts and textbook chapters. His work has been recognized nationally and internationally. Dr. Thompson has mentored dozens of medical students, resident physicians, and fellows-in-training.
Dr. Thompson graduated summa cum laude from Xavier University of Louisiana. He attended medical school at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago followed by Emergency Medicine residency at Cook County Hospital, where he served as chief resident. He completed a Medical Toxicology fellowship at the Toxikon Consortium in Chicago. Dr. Thompson is a fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, the American College of Emergency Physicians, and the American College of Medical Toxicology.
