Dr. Terence Mitchell is director of the Gross Anatomy lab and associate professor of Anatomy at the Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine. He teaches anatomy, embryology, and histology to medical students, emphasizing the role of biomedical sciences in clinical practice. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Ph.D. at Duke University, training in medical education and comparative anatomy. His postdoctoral work at The Johns Hopkins Medical Institute focused on sensorimotor transformations in gymnotiform fishes and the use of mobile technology for the review of basic science material in first- and second-year medical students. His current research interests focus on medical education incorporating emerging and established technology into the anatomical sciences, including high-definition videography for prossections, synthetic cadavers, augmented reality, and cadaver-based case studies.
