The Department of History at Xavier University is dedicated to the humanistic study of the past in order to better understand the present. The department seeks to build a curriculum that helps students see the connections between their pasts and present and offers a broad range of courses from the local to the global and including such topics as revolutionary change and social movements, diasporic thought, identity and belonging, migration, colonialism, Black intellectual thought and traditions, and popular culture. The department's faculty is diverse and dedicated and they seek to build a departmental culture that centers focused advising and a close-knit learning environment. History majors are prepared for a wide variety of careers, including law, government service, public policy, business, library and archival careers, museums and public history, education, and professional research.
