western

Xavier University of Louisiana and Case Western Reserve University Law School have established a partnership for Xavier students wishing to pursue a career in law. Xavier University students will have the opportunity to be directly admitted into the CWRU Law School after completing three years of undergraduate study. Once admitted, the CWRU Law School JD program can be completed in three years.

The new partnership also outlines scholarship opportunities and funding provided by CRWU Law School to Xavier students. Established in 1982 in Cleveland, Ohio, Case Western Reserve University is nationally ranked and internationally regarded, as one of the first schools to be accredited by the American Bar Association. With a student and faculty ratio of 6:1 and a total of eight law clinics and six labs, CWRU promises a hands-on learning experience for Xavierites.

“We’re not eager to have a lot of relationships, but we are eager to develop partnerships with top universities in various parts of the country that our students hail from and that share our values for a more diverse and inclusive world,” said Xavier Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, Anne McCall.

CWRU accepted applicants who were Xavier graduates of its Pre-Law Program will receive at least an additional $1,000 scholarship and the designation as a “Xavier Scholar.” Accepted applicants with a score of 153 or greater on the LSAT will receive at least an additional $1,000 scholarship. All scholarships awarded are for three consecutive academic years.

“Our partnership includes special scholarships for students, we’re assigning them alumni mentors and we’re giving them funding for internships so it’s going to be a great program for Xavier students. We are thrilled to launch this partnership,” said Michael Scharf, Co-Dean of the CWRU Law School.

The virtual partnership signing event took place on Thursday, April 1, 2021, which officially marked the beginning of a promising partnership; the official signing was announced this month.

“I believe we have found a perfect, like-minded partner in these efforts and we share our unwavering commitment to excellence,” said CWRU University Provost Ben Vinson. “Our mission here is to, together, build the next generation of future leaders in the legal profession filled with the magnificent foundations that we know your students develop at Xavier. We are combining that with the unique perspective we offer at Case Western. These students will absolutely change the world.”

This year, Case Western Reserve University is also offering a new graduate scholarship that will cover at least 30% of tuition for eligible Xavier graduates.
