Xavier’s Worship Fest Brings Performances, Praise, and Zarcardi Cortez to Kickoff Homecoming Week

Xavier University kicked off its annual student Homecoming with a worship experience featuring prominent gospel artist Zacardi Cortez. Xavier’s Worship Fest was held on Sunday, October 31st, and it’s the first of several events celebrating Homecoming throughout the week until Saturday, November 6th. The program included performances from the Xavier University Gospel Choir and a special praise dance from student Ayanna Nation.

Zacardi Cortez gained notoriety with his lead vocals on the single “The Blood” from James Fortune’s sophomore CD. The 25-year-old singer brought students to their feet to praise and left them with words of encouragement to carry through the Homecoming celebration.

“It's great to start off Homecoming week with church and giving God praise because when you start with God, he’s going to work it out. Cherish the moment, have fun and keep God first with whatever you do; as long as you have Christ, the sky's the limit,” said Cortez.
