Brian Tugmon is a Clinical Administrative Assistant for Xavier University's Physician Assistant program. He provides the Director of Clinical Education the tools and materials to facilitate educational activities with preceptors and compiles data to evaluate performance during medical rotations. Prior to Mr. Tugmon's role at Xavier, he served six years as a Combat Medic in the United States Army (twelve months of which were overseas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom). Following his army experience he turned towards the civilian sector to transition from medicine to mental health. He functioned as a Behavioral Health Specialist for four years at Aurora Charter Oak Behavioral Hospital, giving assistance to patients suffering various levels of psychological distress. While serving the mental health community, Mr. Tugmon developed empathy for psych patients (particularly fellow veterans), inspiring him to earn a bachelor's degree in Psychology at Cal Poly Humboldt. His undergraduate degree enabled him to work in various roles that emphasized mental well-being and the performance of altruistic duties to help the community. Following the Covid-19 pandemic, Mr. Tugmon utilized the time during lockdown to enroll in Tulane University’s Executive MBA program to further his foundational knowledge of leadership and organizational support. Upon graduating from the MBA program, Mr. Tugmon chose to pursue the Administrative Assistant position at Xavier University to apply his business and psychological knowledge towards aiding the PA program.
