Greetings, In response to the multiple test cancellations during the 2020 year, the Office of Admissions will evaluate high school seniors seeking to enroll in the fall but do not have test scores to submit in support of their Fall 2020 admissions application. To support your understanding of the Xavier University of Louisiana admissions process, including the impact the temporary suspension of the test requirement may have on our holistic review process, the following list of frequently asked questions is presented for your information. 


FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:


ARE MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE WITHOUT SUBMITTED TEST SCORES?

All admitted students receive scholarship consideration.  


IS THIS POLICY NOW A PERMANENT ONE?

At this time the test-optional policy is temporary and applies only to freshmen applicants seeking entrance for the Fall 2020 academic term.  


HOW CAN STUDENTS SUBMIT OFFICIAL SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS?

While we prefer documents to come directly from the college counselor, due to these unprecedented times, we will accept documents on their behalf. Students may upload materials via their application portal or send it to  admissions@xula.edu. Be sure to include the applicant’s full name, high school, and birth date on all documents. 


HOW CAN STUDENTS SUBMIT THEIR FINAL TRANSCRIPT? WHAT ABOUT PASS/FAIL ON THEIR FINAL TRANSCRIPT?

Students must still submit their official high school and/or college transcripts directly from their secondary or college institution(s) upon enrolling. Given current school closures, it is understood we may likely receive final transcripts later in the summer. The Office of Admissions will remain flexible to accommodate student needs. 


Due to COVID-19, we will accept pass/fail grades for the spring 2020 semester on final transcripts for first-year and transfer students enrolling in the fall 2020 semester. This flexibility will extend to students who may experience pass/fail grades during 9th, 10th or 11th grade in future cycles. 


IF I SUBMIT STANDARDIZED TESTS, HOW WILL MY APPLICATION BE REVIEWED?

The Office of Admissions uses a holistic review process. This means that multiple factors are considered when reviewing applications. These factors include, but are not limited to, weighted and unweighted grade point average(s), class rank (if available), academic rigor (progression throughout one’s HS career), essay/s, letter/s of recommendation, involvement outside of the classroom and standardized test scores. 


DO STUDENTS NEED TO ENROLL BY MAY 1?

The decision reply day is May 1st. Students must submit the $150 acceptance fee via confirm.xula.edu by May 1st in order to guarantee their seat in the fall 2020 incoming class. Students admitted after May 1 should respond to the offer of admissions within 10 days.


If, at any point, there is concern regarding the enrollment fee or notification timeline, please contact the assigned admissions counselor


WHAT IF A STUDENT PAYS THE ENROLLMENT FEE AND THE UNIVERSITY DOES NOT OPEN WITH ON-CAMPUS PROGRAMMING THIS FALL, CAN THE STUDENT GET THEIR ENROLLMENT FEE REFUNDED? 

While we prefer that students begin their journey with us this fall, we will certainly be flexible if students and families must make a different choice. If, at any point, you have concerns, we encourage you to contact us at admissions@xula.edu and we will evaluate situations on a case-by-case basis. We understand that our students and families are facing unprecedented circumstances.

Academics

Xavier University of Louisiana now offers a master’s degree option in public health, successfully making the University the first HBCU in the state to offer the program. Of the 500 plus students who graduated during Xavier’s spring 2020 commencement, eight graduates received master’s degrees in public health. The inaugural cohort of graduates matriculated into the program in the Fall of 2018.
