Write N.O.W. at Xavier
Write N.O.W. will not be part of Xavier's 2011 Summer Programs. Please come back to this site in 2012 for information about next year's program.
The program has been successful in the past and has enjoyed strong enrollment; however, at this moment we are relying strictly on tuition and a healthy enrollment to determine whether Write N.O.W. runs this year.
Feel free to register; the deadline is Friday April 29, 2011. If the program is cancelled this summer we will refund checks and let you know well ahead of time. Meanwhile, please continue to check this page for further updates. And if you have any questions, call 504.520-5151. Thank you!
Write N.O.W. (New Orleans Writers) at Xavier will encourage students to explore their own creativity as it is expressed in written form. The instructors, both life-long writers themselves, will lead participants through a variety of writing exercises, some of which will move students beyond the traditional classroom setting, and will teach young writers about the “bones” of poetry (formal, free verse, and spoken word) and prose (story story, flash fiction, and creative nonfiction).
The program was developed by award-winning writers Ralph Adamo and Katheryn Krotzer Laborde.
Like all good writers, the participants will be considering their own thoughts and ideas, and making fresh observations about the world around them. Besides writing, they will be reading and discussing literature (provided).
