The goal of the Upward Bound Program is to provide opportunities to selected high school students with academic potential who want to pursue careers requiring post-secondary education. The Upward Bound Program at Xavier University offers academic instruction, individual and small-group tutorials, counseling, college-admission activities, and both social and cultural experiences to its students. Upward Bound offers a year-long educational program with academic-year and summer components. The academic-year program meets on designated Saturdays during the fall and spring terms, and the summer component includes a 6-week intense preparatory program. Seniors who graduate each May are eligible for the Summer Bridge Program, which allows students to live on campus and enroll in six credit hours at the university. High school principals, teachers, parents, community leaders, and Xavier personnel are all involved to serve as resources that help meet the students' needs.
