3) cpsc(at)xula.edu: Exploring Computer Science at XU

Objective: Xavier's Computer Science Department (CPSC) invites you to participate in our cpsc(at)xula.edu summer program. This summer's theme is "Computation is Important for Oil and Gas Exploration," so we'll have fun exploring geoscience challenges. We'll build and program Lego Mindstorm robots to search for oil; we'll create music and pictures to figure out how sound and images are used in the difficult search for oil and natural gas; we'll have professional scientists as guest speakers; we'll take a field trip to a BP oil exploration center; and we'll have competitions (and prizes) that showcase all that we've learned

When:  June 4th - June 15th for half-days from 9:00am until noon.

Who: 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. All high school students are welcome. We look forward to exploring science with top students, typical students, funny students, nervous students, those interested in science, those not sure if they're interested in science, and even those who think they're not interested in science.

Cost: It's all free! Just come and have fun exploring science with us.

Application Process (by Tuesday, May 29, 2012):   Email Dr. Edwards (aedwards@xula.edu <aedwards@xula.edu>).  Your email must have your full name, your birthdate, the name of your high school, and your telephone number.
