Structure

• University Planning Team – chaired by President, senior staff and faculty and student representatives; sets strategic direction and provides guidance to and interaction with the University Strategic Planning Committee
• University Strategic Planning Committee –   Co-chaired by VP Planning and Institutional Research and chair selected by the committee; representative from each academic department CAS, each division in COP, from each major administrative unit, and student representatives; working in coordination with the University Planning Team, reviews mission and vision, develops strategic goals, objectives/benchmarks, and participates in preparation of setting task work for each objective/benchmark

Process

• Strategic plan developed and implemented on a five year cycle
• Progress on goals objectives reviewed annually by University Planning Team

Fourth Year of Cycle

• Situation analysis, environmental scanning, competitor review conducted by Office of Planning and Institutional Research in year four
• University Strategic Planning Committee is organized during spring semester of the fourth year
• Faculty-Staff SWOT analysis conducted during the spring faculty institute in year four
• Trustees review mission and vision during spring semester of year four
• University Planning Team conducts mission/vision review, develops University strategic directions and planning guidelines during spring of year four in coordination with Trustees and University Strategic Planning Committee
• University Strategic Planning Committee reviews mission/vision during spring year four in coordination with the University Planning Team

Fifth Year of Cycle

• University Strategic Planning Committee in coordination with University Planning Team develops strategic goals during fall semester of year five
• University Strategic Planning Committee in coordination with the University Planning Team develops objectives/benchmarks during spring semester of year five
• Strategic plan is completed by June of year five

Where are we now?

• In fifth year of cycle
• Will utilize University Academic Council (with CAS and COP chairs and elected representatives), representatives from administrative units and students to develop and coordinate goals and objectives
• Strategic Plan will be completed by June 2008 prior to senior leadership SACS visit to Atlanta
