SGA Elections Positions Available 2017-2018

Positions available for Elections and Qualifications for Student Government Association and Class Offices

Students interested in running for a leadership position in Student Government should gain knowledge of the SGA Constitution and the Election Code and are required to pass the Constitution Test with 70% or greater.

  
Qualifications for Prospective Candidates:
1. must be registered as a full-time student;
2. must have the required cumulative and a prior semester GPA;
3. must be in good standing with the university (no current academic or conduct violations or probationary status; and
4. must have completed Emergent (class/Senate Clerk) and /or/ Advanced Leader (SGA, Senator-at- Large) classes or be enrolled at the time of appointment or service.

   
Grade Point Average

The University, through the Office of the Vice President for Student Services, establishes the qualifying GPA and eligibility for student leadership positions. The current minimum qualifying GPA is inserted into the SGA Constitution, but is subject to change. Current qualifying GPA is 2.75 previous semester/2.75 cumulative (an alternate GPA of 3.0 cum/2/5 semester may be considered.

   
XU LEADS (Leadership Education and Developmental Skills)
All candidates must attend a predetermined number of Emerging or Advanced Leaders Workshops.

    

SGA POSITIONS AVAILABLE 2017

SGA President

To be eligible for the office of SGA President, a candidate must:

  • Have a minimum cumulative average of 2.75 and a prior semester gpa of at least 2.75.
  • Be a full-time Xavier student two semesters preceding the election.
  • Be officially classified as a junior or senior at the end of the Spring semester.
  • Be in good academic standing with the University and not under any University sanctions.
  • Be nominated by a petition signed by one hundred (100) full-time Xavier undergraduates.

    

SGA Vice President

 To be eligible for the office of SGA Vice-President, a candidate must:

  • Have a minimum cumulative average of 2.75 and a prior semester gpa of at least 2.75.
  • Be a full-time Xavier student two semesters preceding the election.
  • Be officially classified as a junior or senior at the end of the Spring semester.
  • Be in good academic standing with the University and not under any University sanctions.
  • Be nominated by a petition signed by one hundred (100) full-time Xavier undergraduates.
  • Officially cleared by the Vice- President of Student Services.

   

SGA Secretary

To be eligible for the office of SGA Secretary, a candidate must:

  • Have a minimum cumulative average of 2.75 and a prior semester gpa of at least 2.75.
  • Be a full-time Xavier student two semesters preceding the election.
  • Be officially classified as a sophomore at the end of the Spring semester.
  • Be in good academic standing with the University and not under any University sanctions.
  • Be nominated by a petition signed by one hundred (100) full-time Xavier undergraduates.
  • Officially cleared by the Vice-President of Student Services.

   

SGA Treasurer

To be eligible for the office of SGA Treasurer, a candidate must:

  • Have a minimum cumulative average of 2.75 and a prior semester gpa of at least 2.75.
  • Be full-time Xavier student two semesters preceding the election.
  • Be officially classified as a sophomore at the end of the Spring semester.
  • Be in good academic standing with the University and not under any University sanctions.
  • Be nominated by a petition signed by on hundred (100) full- time Xavier undergraduates.
  • Officially cleared by the Vice-President of Student Services.

 

Senator at large

To be eligible for the office of Senator-at-large, a candidate must:

  • Have a minimum cumulative average of 2.75 and a prior semester gpa of at least 2.75.
  • Be a full-time Xavier student two semesters preceding the election.
  • Be officially classified as a full-time student of the classification that the individual wishes to represent at the end of the Spring semester.
  • Be in good academic standing with the University and not under any University sanctions.
  • Be nominated by a petition signed by one hundred (100) full-time Xavier undergraduates.
  • Officially cleared by the Vice- President of Student Services.

 

Miss/Mr. Xavier

To be eligible for the office of Miss/Mr. Xavier, a candidate must:

  • Have a minimum cumulative average of 2.75 and a prior semester gpa of at least 2.75.
  • Be a full-time Xavier student two semesters preceding the election.
  • Be officially classified as a senior at the end of the Spring semester.
  • Be in good academic standing with the University and not under any University sanctions.
  • Be nominated by a petition signed by one hundred (100) full-time Xavier undergraduates.
  • Officially cleared by the Vice- President of Student Services.

  

Class Positions

Senior Class

To be eligible for the office of Senior Class President, Vice- President, Secretary, Treasurer, Class Senator, or Queen/King, a candidate must:

  • Have a minimum cumulative average of 2.75 and a prior semester gpa of at least 2.75.
  • Be a full-time Xavier student two semesters preceding the election.
  • Be officially classified as a full-time student of the classification that the individual wishes to represent at the end of the Spring semester.
  • Be in good academic standing with the University and not under any University sanctions.
  • Be nominated by a petition signed by fifty (50) full-time Xavier undergraduates of the same classification.
  • Officially cleared by the Vice- President of Student Services.

 

Junior Class

To be eligible for the office of Junior Class President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Class Senator, or Queen/ King, a candidate must:

  • Have a minimum cumulative average of 2.75 and a prior semester gpa of at least 2.75.
  • Be a full-time Xavier student two semesters preceding the election.
  • Be officially classified as a full-time student of the classification that the individual wishes to represent at the end of the Spring semester.
  • Be in good academic standing with the University and not under any University sanctions.
  • Be nominated by a petition signed by fifty (50) full-time Xavier undergraduates of the same classification.
  • Officially cleared by the Vice- President of Student Services.

 

Sophomore Class

To be eligible for the office of Sophomore Class President, Vice- President, Secretary, Treasurer, Class Senator, or Queen/King, a candidate must:

  • Have a minimum cumulative average of 2.75 and a prior semester gpa of at least 2.75.
  • Be a full-time Xavier student two semesters preceding the election.
  • Be officially classified as a full-time Xavier student of the classification that the individual wishes to represent at the end of the Spring semester.
  • Be in good academic standing with the University and not under any University sanctions.
  • Be nominated by a petition signed by fifty (50) full-time Xavier undergraduates of the same classification.
  • Officially cleared by the Vice-President of Student Services.

 

Freshman Class

To be eligible for the officer of Freshman Class President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Class Senator, or Queen/King, a candidate must:

  • Have a minimum cumulative average of 2.75 or above from the institution previously attended attended prior to enrolling at Xavier.
  • Be a full-time first semester Freshman.
  • Be in good academic standing with the University and not under any University sanctions.
  • Be nominated by a petition signed by fifty (50) full-time first semester Freshman.
  • Officially cleared by the Vice- President of Student Services.

 

All candidates must also meet the requirements as stated in the Student Government Association Constitution, Article 5.

   

Class Officer Duties

President

  • Chair all class meetings
  • Attend all IOC (inter- Organizational Council) meetings
  • Attend all student body meetings
  • Attend the annual SGA Leadership Retreat
  • President is responsible for overall functioning of class, including activities, finances and holding executive board meetings when necessary

Vice President

  • Assume all responsibilities of the president, in the president’s absences
  • Attend all class meetings
  • Attend all IOC (Inter-Organizational Council) meetings
  • Attend all student body meetings
  • Attend the annual SGA Leadership Retreat
  • V.P is responsible for specific class operations as designated by the president

Treasurer

  • Attend all student body meetings
  • Attend all class meetings
  • Attend all executive board meetings
  • Attend the annual SGA Leadership Retreat
  • Attend all treasury board meetings
  • Responsible for the finances of the class
  • Responsible to preparing the budget
  • Prepare a class budget as voted upon at class meetings (i.e. Check Request)
  • Complete Check Request and other budgetary items in a timely manner (as dictated by the SGA Treasurer/Student Services)
  • Responsible for processing requests for funds thru appropriate channels
  • Submit monthly financial reports, end of the semester and end of the year to the class, Advisors, and SGA Treasurer

Secretary

  • Attend all student body meetings
  • Attend all class meetings
  • Attend all executive board meetings
  • Attend the annual SGA Leadership Retreat
  • Keep accurate minutes for all meetings
  • Post minutes of all class meetings
  • Distribute minutes of executive board meetings to the executive board and Advisors
  • Read previous minutes at all meetings
  • Act as publicity chair for class
  • Handle correspondence for executive board and class

Senators

  • Attend all student body meetings
  • Attend all class meetings
  • Attend all executive board meetings
  • Attend all senate meetings
  • Attend the annual SGA Leadership Retreat
  • Present and discuss senate matters with class and executive board
  • Correspond with class treasurer regarding SGA Treasurer and SGA President Budget reports

Class Queen/King

  • Attend all student body meetings
  • Attend all class meetings
  • Attend all executive board meetings
  • Attend the annual SGA Leadership Retreat
  • Maintain class spirit
  • Assist Miss Xavier /Mr. Xavier with Homecoming as deemed appropriate
  • Organize class week
