Why you wanted to be SI leader: I've been an SI instructor for an entire semester now and have seen the good that it produces. Why should people come to your session: People should come to my session to insure that they pass the developmental class for which they are enrolled in. Coming to my sessions increases students likelihood of passing. |

Kara Keller Kkeller1@xula.edu Math 990 SI Leader
Major: Mathematics
Career Aspiration: I aspire to become a math teacher for either middle school or high school. After I gain experience in the classroom for a few years, I will get my Doctorate in Math Education and either teach at the college level or work for the Department of Education.
Why you wanted to be SI leader: I wanted to be a SI Leader so that issues in grasping important concepts can be addressed. As a math major, I know that people widely dislike math and consider it to be hard, and sometimes this affects their performance in a math course. I want to help students build their confidence in math, and this will do the same for me.
Why should people come to your session: Students should come to my sessions because they can receive answers to their questions from their colleagues and myself, I will engage them in learning the material, and I can share methods that may help them better understand the material. These sessions are free, voluntary, and anonymous! Plus, there may be rewards for coming to some sessions. Also, students have a higher chance of passing the course if they come. My SI sessions will test your knowledge and your neighbor's! Why struggle? Come learn it and share it! |

Why you wanted to become an SI Leader: I know how much of an impact SI has on the success of the students who take advantage of it. With that being said, it was my mission to be a part of the movement. I genuinely enjoy seeing others be successful in everything they do, so if I can assist, I am all in!
Why should people come to your session: Why wouldn’t you?? It is free, anonymous, and you can bring your lunch while being proactive about your grade! |

Lawrence Jackson ljacks15@xula.edu Math 1020 SI Leader
Major: Psychology Pre-Med
Career Aspiration: Family & Martial Therapy and Counseling
Why you wanted to become an SI Leader: In my past few years at Xavier, I have not always understood the perceptions and the different perspectives in which my professors were teaching. I have realized that having someone help connect that bridge could be very beneficial to learning and gain in that particular class.
Why should people come to your session: I will help bridge that gap between your professor's perspectives and what actually reaches your brain. I have a unique ability in statistics to grasp the bulk of the information and formulate a better way of understanding so others can understand. |

Kara Everhart keverhar@xula.edu Accounting 1020 SI Leader
Career Aspiration: Business Analyst
Why you wanted to be an SI leader: I wanted to be an SI leader because going to Xavier I felt that since I did well in a difficult class that I could help others do the same. I want others to be just as successful if not more successful. I thought that it would not only be a great resume builder but it would also give me the chance to build on my communication, studying, and organization, among other skills
Why should people come to your session: Students new and old to philosophy should come to my sessions because I had a 100% passing rate of the students who came to my sessions last fall; the numbers include students that were doing great in the class to those who were not. I know how to help students grasp philosophy because I not only did well in the class but the statistics last fall say so. I help with games and other creative ways to engage students into the material. If a student regularly comes to my sessions I can guarantee they will be able to teach the material to someone else, and that is when they'll know they know the material! |
