NSF LOUIS STOKES – LOUISIANA ALLIANCE FOR MINORITY PARTICIPATION RESEARCH PROGRAM |

Xavier is a member of the Louis Stokes – Louisiana Alliance for Minority Participation (LS-LAMP), a statewide, coordinated program aimed at increasing the number of minority students completing baccalaureate degrees in STEM and subsequently going on to graduate school.
The program funds a total of 8 undergraduate students to conduct mentored undergraduate research projects. Student stipends are provided in the amount of $3,000 per student.
Students are required to work 10 hours per week with their faculty research mentor; present their research findings at the Xavier’s Festival of Scholars; submit a Summary of their research each at the end of each semester; participate in all LS-LAMP, GradStar, or CUR sanctioned campus activities and/or meetings.

- This program is for students interested in Graduate School.
- Those who can become LS-LAMP Research Scholars are:
- Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors majoring in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Microbiology, and Physics
- Willing to go to graduate school
- Those that have a 2.75 GPA or above
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- The LS-LAMP Research Scholars Program can benefit you by:
- Providing partial tuition scholarship during the grant period provided the student maintains 2.75 GPA or above
- Academic year research experiences
- Help in securing summer research fellowships
- Travel funds to present research findings at professional conferences
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) preparation
- “Survival”/Transition Training (students are required to register with the Office of Graduate Placement)
