Xavier is a member of the Louis Stokes – Louisiana Alliance for Minority Participation (LS-LAMP), a statewide, coordinated program aimed at increasing the number of minority students completing baccalaureate degrees in STEM and subsequently going on to graduate school. 
The program funds a total of 8 undergraduate students to conduct mentored undergraduate research projects.  Student stipends are provided in the amount of $3,000 per student.  
Students are required to work 10 hours per week with their faculty research mentor; present their research findings at the Xavier’s Festival of Scholars; submit a Summary of their research each at the end of each semester; participate in all LS-LAMP, GradStar, or CUR sanctioned campus activities and/or meetings.

• This program is for students interested in Graduate School.
• Those who can become LS-LAMP Research Scholars are:

1. Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors majoring in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Microbiology, and Physics
2. Willing to go to graduate school
3. Those that have a 2.75 GPA or above
4. Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

• The LS-LAMP Research Scholars Program can benefit you by:

1. Providing partial tuition scholarship during the grant period provided the student maintains 2.75 GPA or above
2. Academic year research experiences
3. Help in securing summer research fellowships
4. Travel funds to present research findings at professional conferences
5. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) preparation
6. “Survival”/Transition Training (students are required to register with the Office of Graduate Placement)
