Firstly, I would like to say "Thank You, Dr. Francis." You have cleared the path for me and so many others.
I am deeply honored to be selected as the next president of Xavier, and I am eager to work with all of you 'Äì faculty, staff, alumni, students, and stakeholders 'Äì to envision a future that sustains the university's distinct mission in a changing higher education environment and that responds to societal need.
Upon arriving in this country in 1963, I was supported by many who nurtured my love of learning and science and gave me the encouragement and confidence to persevere. Much of my career has been spent attempting to pay it forward, helping students realize their dreams, regardless of their backgrounds.
I know that this, too, has been the life's work of Dr. Francis, and while I will never be able to fill his shoes, I plan to work each day to carry on his work far into the future and graduate many more generations of Xavierites.
