Early Medical School Acceptance Programs & Other Professional School Partnerships

The following health professions schools currently have special partnerships with Xavier University of Louisiana:

Tulane University School of Medicine, University of Rochester School of Medicine, St. Louis University School of Medicine, and Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth have special programs that allow Xavier students to gain conditional acceptance into medical school during their junior year of college.  Eligible students who complete the one-on-one Sophomore Assessment Meeting in the Premedical Office may apply to these programs during the second semester of their sophomore year and are notified of their acceptance status during the fall term of the junior year. Students who are granted conditional acceptance through early medical school acceptance programs will be expected to complete their undergraduate education at Xavier University prior to matriculation and to maintain satisfactory academic and behavioral progress as articulated by each early acceptance institution. Students who are granted conditional acceptance into the University of Rochester program are NOT required to take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). The MCAT is, however, a requirement for the other early medical school acceptance programs. Select a program below for more details.  Additionally, the University of South Alabama (USA) College of Medicine (Mobile, AL) encourages highly qualified freshman and sophomore premeds at Xavier to consider the SouthMed Prep Scholars Program for research and early acceptance; for more info on this program, attend the USA Medical School information session at Xavier during your freshman or sophomore year.

Rush University College of Nursing (Chicago, IL), via the Preferential Admission Program, guarantees admission into the Generalist Entry Master of Science in Nursing (GEM) program for up to 2 (two) qualified Xavier applicants for entry in the fall and up to two (2) qualified Xavier applicants for entry in the spring.  Diversity scholarships are available to eligible students who enroll in the program, many of which are $10,000 awards!  Further, the GEM program prepares students for nursing leadership roles and advanced education in nursing (e.g. nurse practitioner, nurse anesthesia, etc.). In order to be reviewed by Rush for admission via the Preferential Admission Program, XU applicants must first apply for endorsement/recommendation by the Premedical Office.  Xavier students who wish to be considered for entry into Rush via the Preferential Admission Program must submit the Endorsement Application to the Premedical Office by June 15th (if applying to enter the nursing school in the following spring semester) and by November 15th (if applying to enter the nursing school in the following fall semester).  NOTE:  XU alumni who apply must do so with no more than twelve (12) months lapsing between graduating from XU and matriculation at Rush.

All partnership programs with health professions schools are discussed in detail during the Freshman Premed Biomedical Honor Corps Meetings (an organization for all new freshman and transfer premed students at Xavier) and during one-on-one premed assessment meetings held at strategic times in the freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior years. There are very specific major, GPA, and coursework requirements that must be met by specific deadlines to be eligible for these programs.  As a result, students are encouraged to begin familiarizing themselves with and satisfying the requirements starting in the fall semester of the freshman year.

Special note about early acceptance and other special admission programs: The special partnership programs detailed above are not the only such programs that may be available to undergraduate students.  Students should inquire with other medical, dental, and other health professions schools of interest about special opportunities that may be available.  For example:
