The Planning Office coordinates and supports the planning process of the university in cooperation with the Office of Institutional Research. It does this by assisting individual departments in planning as the need may arise, by coordinating the documentation of planning throughout the entire university, by evaluating the effectiveness of the planning process and leading the effort to continuously improve the quality of the process in pursuit of Xavier's mission.

The Office of Institutional Research contributes to the mission of Xavier University by collecting, analyzing, and distributing information about Xavier for all purposes, but especially in support of the university's planning and assessment activities.
