DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS, COMPUTER SCIENCE & DUAL DEGREE ENGINEERING PROGRAM (DDEP)

Dr. Anderson Sunda-Meya
  • Head and Associate Professor
  • Norwood Professor of Physics
  • Associate Chair, Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences
  • Director, Dual Degree Engineering Program

Research Interests
Dr. Sunda-Meya holds a research curiosity in the subjects of Material Characterization, Soft Matter Physics, and Nanosystem Imaging. His research interests intersect at the nexus of materials science, biology, and engineering— particularly concerning the advanced characterization of biosystems and nanostructure (AFM, SEM, Raman, PFM); as well as the fabrication and assembly of nano-materials, the mechanical and electrical properties of nano and bio materials, as well as cellular mechanics.

Awards
2011 Winner Faculty Excellence Award in Service Xavier University of Louisiana
Citation:
“Earning a Ph.D. in Physics from North Carolina State University in 2007, Dr. Sunda-Meya views service as an extension of the classroom—and has introduced a service-learning component into the three course introductory sequence for general physics. Creating a spring semester workshop “Explore Physics and Engineering at Xavier”, Dr. Sunda-Meya has been instrumental in raising awareness and interest in XULA’s physics program. Through his efforts, an increase in enrollment of physics majors has grown significantly from 2007 through 2010.”
