For the academic year 2011-2012, the Department of Philosophy distributes to eligible philosophy majors up to 10 awards ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. Students in all classifications - incoming freshmen, current students, and transfer students - are eligible. The awards are given to the students with the highest academic standing who have financial need that is unmet by other scholarship, institutional, or financial aid. Incoming freshmen must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.3 and ACT of 23. Current and transfer students must have a minimum college overall GPA of 2.8 and philosophy GPA of 3.0.
Students must submit a letter of interest in receiving the award to the Chair of the Department through email by May 1. All prospective applicants are asked to submit their FAFSAs to the University’s Financial Aid Office prior to the May 1 deadline. Failure to submit the FAFSA in a timely manner may result in the applicant not being considered for available need-based departmental aid.
The departmental awards are made annually and the amount of funding may vary from year to year. The awards are not renewable and interested students must apply each year for departmental aid.
