Action Plan for XU Campus Police
XAVIER UNIVERSITY POLICE DEPARTMENT
General H1N1 Statement
The Xavier University Police Department (XUPD) recognizes the significance and potential impact of the recent local H1 N1 outbreak on the Xavier University community. XUPD is committed to being part of the university’s efforts to respond to this challenge in an attempt to minimize disruption to the university’s operations. The Xavier University Police Department, as first responders, will assist Health Services with communication, transportation, and the suspension of classes should that need arise.
COMMUNICATION
The Xavier University Police Department has direct access to the Louisiana State Police Region 1 radio communication group. This enables the XUPD to contact emergency medical personnel in the event that they are needed. The XUPD will communicate with Health Services to receive updates on suspected cases of influenza in the Xavier University community and facilitate communication with any local or state public safety agencies having pertinent information concerning local public health efforts.
TRANSPORTATION
The XUPD will assist Health Services in facilitating the transportation of students to areas of isolation, local hospitals, or other medical facilities. This will be done with the utmost caution and preventative measures to protect members of the XUPD. Transportation will be done using guidelines and precautions recommended by Health Services.
UNIVERSITY CLOSURE:
In the event of a university closure, the XUPD will remain on duty to ensure the protection of university assets. The XUPD will work closely with Student Services, Housing, and Facilities to provide the most effective coverage during the university’s closure, identifying potentially vulnerable assets and security issues. The XUPD will also assist in the orderly resumption of university operations and re-entry.
