Action Plan for XU Campus Facilities
OFFICE OF FACILITY PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT
One of the most essential functions of any facility department in the event of a pandemic will be the implementation of a rigorous cleaning regimen to inhibit the spread of the contagion within the campus. Regular disinfecting with appropriate cleaning products will be essential for protecting the Xavier community. Xavier University of Louisiana’s Office of Facility Planning & Management (FP&M) has taken the following immediate preventative actions in regards to the H1N1 virus:
- Placed free-standing hand sanitizing dispensers in highly frequented common areas.
- Reinforced importance of existing safety and cleaning guidelines throughout the campus.
- Increased cleaning frequency in common areas.
- Ensured that adequate safety and cleaning supplies/products are available.
- Conducted departmental training on hand washing and hand sanitizers.
- Requested that our vendors and contractors take preventive measures regarding the H1N1 virus.
- Requested that our vendors and contractors remove any employee who demonstrates flu-like symptoms from the Xavier University campus.
We are currently functioning with an elevated level of janitorial protocol; which includes disseminating information about the H1N1 virus (swine flu) provided by the CDC, utilizing the approved EPA disinfectants for cleaning surfaces, providing the required personal protective equipment (PPE) for any personnel involved in janitorial duties, increasing the cleaning frequency of hard surfaces (such as counter tops, elevators buttons, entrance doors handles, etc.), increasing the frequency of cleaning common areas, and properly disposing of the contaminated and/or potentially contaminated waste.
In addition to these measures, we have also worked in conjunction with Residential Housing to prepare rooms for any students who may have contracted the H1N1 virus or displays flu-like symptoms. In the event these rooms are used, we will take proper measures to ensure that these rooms are thoroughly sanitized with the appropriate disinfectants and properly dispose of any contaminated waste while students are being housed here and once they have returned to the general population. Staffers cleaning the area will also be required to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment whenever they are working in these areas.
Facilities Planning & Management supervisors are currently monitoring the well-being of all staff members and we strongly encouraging everyone to receive available vaccinations against the flu. This recommendation is not limited to university personnel, but also includes contractors, vendors, and frequent visitors.
