Action Plan for XU Employees & Supervisors

OFFICE OF  HUMAN RESOURCES

I. PREVENTIVE MEASURES TO BE TAKEN BY XAVIER UNIVERSITY STAFF EMPLOYEES & SUPERVISORS REGARDING PERSONAL CARE AND CARE OF PERSONS LIVING IN THE EMPLOYEE’S RESIDENCE:

Through information provided by the University, each staff employee will:

  1. Develop an understanding of the H1N1 flu virus, its symptoms and potential effects;
  2. Develop an understating and use of preventive measures to reduce the risk of contracting H1N1 flu virus including washing hands, using antibacterial and antiviral agents to clean surfaces in areas with high traffic, appropriate sneezing and coughing techniques that are recommended by health care professionals and healthcare agencies;
  3. Limit exposure to individuals with flu-like symptoms or who have been exposed to H1N1 flu virus;
  4. Remain current on information regarding the H1N1 flu virus and its impact on the Xavier community through regular updates provided by the Office of Media Relations.

THROUGH INFORMATION PROVIDED BY THE UNIVERSITY ALL SUPERVISORS WILL:

  1. Meet with their staff employees to communicate Xavier University’s H1N1 flu policy  and staff sick leave policy;
  2. Have an “anti-virus kit” consisting of antibacterial/antiviral spray or wipes, hand sanitizers and encourage each staff employee to have their own hand sanitizer;
  3. Ensure adequate coverage when staff employees are on sick leave because of the H1N1 flu virus.

II. INTERVENTIVE MEASURES TO BE TAKEN BY SUPERVISORS OF XAVIER STAFF EMPLOYEES WHO EXPERIENCE FLU LIKE SYMPTOMS, OR IF THEY OR MEMBERS OF THE  HOUSEHOLD ARE DIAGNOSED WITH H1N1 FLU:

  1. Arrange to see a physician immediately to receive a diagnosis and begin treatment if the staff employee has H1N1 flu;
  2. Contact immediate supervisor to provide a notice of personal illness or notification that a  member of the employee’s household has  H1N1 flu;
  3. If the employee or if a member of the employee’s household is diagnosed with H1N1 flu virus, the employee should remain away from campus for 5-7 days or until the employee or the member of the employee’s household is released from the care of their physician;
  4. Provide immediate supervisor with a return to work notice from their physician or the physician of the infected household member.
