OVID BASIC SEARCH
  • Boolean operator: terms used in online searching to either narrow or expand search results.

  • Establishes relationship between keywords/concepts that will provide you with the results you want.

  • Three Boolean operators: AND, OR, NOT

14
OVID BASIC SEARCH
  • AND
    • Using the operator AND between keywords (Obesity AND Hypertension) will narrow results of a search because all the keywords have to be present in order for an item to be retrieved

  • OR
    • Using the operator OR between keywords (Obesity OR Hypertension) will broaden results of a search because it allows for either keyword to appear in your search results

  • NOT
    •   Using the operator NOT between keywords (Obesity NOT Hypertension) will limit results of a search because it will exclude the keyword immediately following it.
