Xavier’s librarians have started an outreach program. We are interested in all parties who wish to encourage life-long learning, a love of literacy,
and befriend the Library Resource Center. To contact us about outreach with your organization, please email our Outreach Committee.
The Gettysburg Address - Live Reading and Taping - WYES
Students, staff and faculty were invited to participate in readings of the Gettysburg Address in the Library Resource Center on THURSDAY (Feb. 27)
at 2:00 p.m. on the 4th floor of the Library Resource Center. A camera crew from WYES was in the library to record the readings, which are being
filmed as part of an audience participation project in conjunction with Ken Burns’ upcoming documentary The Address.
"THE ADDRESS, a 90-minute feature length documentary by Ken Burns, will air on PBS in the spring of 2014. The film tells the story of a tiny
school in Putney Vermont, the Greenwood School, where each year the students are encouraged to practice, memorize, and recite the Gettysburg
Address. In its exploration of the Greenwood School, the film also unlocks the history, context and importance of President Lincoln’s most powerful
address. The Address airs on WYES, Tuesday April 15th at 8pm. Ken Burns and PBS are challenging everyone across the country, especially
students, to create a video of themselves reading or reciting the Gettysburg Address."

KIPP Leadership Primary School
A new partnership has sprung up between XU and the KIPP Leadership Primary School at 2300 St. Claude. Librarians have been visiting the
kindergarten class (named after Xavier University of Louisiana) and reading to the youngest members of the future undergraduate class. We are
promoting a love of reading and the joy of learning through books.

On December 20th, Xavier librarians visited the KIPP Leadership Primary to read to Mr. Sears' kindergarten class. The classroom is named for
Xavier University of Louisiana so the Library Resource Center has adopted it. Elizabeth Elmwood and Johannah White greatly enjoyed reading
holiday stories and participating in class activities with the bright-eyed and enthusiastic youngsters. More activities are planned for our February
