Essay Contest, Spring 2011
Xavier University's Library Resource Center Abraham Lincoln College Essay Contest is open to
all Xavier University undergraduate students.
First Place: $100
Second Place: $75
Third Place: $25
Discuss how President Abraham Lincoln confronted the constitutional,
slavery, secession, and civil war issues that he faced during his
presidency?
Was he successful? Why or why not?
What were his major
accomplishments as President?
How would you have handled the same
issues if faced with them?
Please explain fully.
Essay Requirements:
- Essay should be original work of maximum 2000 words minimum 1000
words addressing the above questions;
Submit electronically (as a .doc or .rtf file) to ecjoseph@xula.edu,
mllee@xula.edu.
- Deadline March 31, 2011: winners will be announced opening night of the
NEH/ALA Lincoln: the Constitution and the Civil War library traveling
exhibition on April 13, 2011.
- The winning essay will be published on the Library Resource Center's
website and acknowledged in the Xavier Herald and Xavier E-Bulletin
