Leadership Education And Development Skills
The mission of Xavier University Student Leadership Development program is to prepare students for leadership roles and responsibilities through use of multiple techniques. Distinctive programs for emergent leaders (students preparing to take on leadership positions) and advanced leaders (students who already work in some leadership capacity) engage students in an interactive and comprehensive curriculum designed to teach effective and ethical leadership skills. Programming includes training workshops, community service, reflective writing, and practical application projects.
Successful completion of the XU LEADS program is recognized with student leadership certification granted by the Center for Student Leadership & Service and approved by the Division of Student Services. This leadership certification is the official program approved by the university to train and educate potential and current student leaders to fulfill various roles in the student leadership community. Completion of the program, however, does not guarantee any student leadership position and other requirements may be set by the individual organization.
Why is student leadership certification important?
That’s simple! You’ll need student leadership certification if you’re interested in:
- Student Government Association (Executive Board)
- Class Officers
- Peer Dean Association/Peer Dean Planning Committee
- Xavier Activities Board (XAB) Executive Board
- Mobilization At Xavier (MAX) Project Coordinators
- Residence Hall Council
- Personal development/enrichment
Note: Students that are interested in becoming Resident Assistants (RAs) are not required to have certification but we welcome and encourage your participation in the program.
When does XU LEADS meet?
Workshops are held once per week for seven (7) weeks. Course times and availabilities are published at the beginning of each semester on the first day of classes in the Center for Student Leadership & Service.
How can I get involved?
Classes for the Fall 2011 semester are already completed. Sign up for XU LEADS for Spring 2012 will begin on January 9 (the first day of Spring classes). You can find sign-up information in the Center for Student Leadership & Service (UC 316).
