May 27 – 28, 2011
Who is invited to participate?
All first time freshmen admitted to Xavier University of Louisiana for the fall 2011 are invited to participate. Regional students who intend to enroll at Xavier in the fall are required to attend. This includes students from Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Texas, and Tennessee.
What will we do at Xavier for the two days?
Participants will have the opportunity to meet current Xavier students and
talk to faculty in their prospective academic departments. Placement tests
will be offered in reading, mathematics, and English and those students who
require developmental courses will learn about satisfying these requirements during Xavier's summer sessions. In fact, Lagniappe students receive a 50%
tuition discount on 2011 summer session courses!!
Parents will meet with representatives from administrative areas like
financial aid, student health services, student accounts and in addition to
all the business matters, campus and city tours are available for parents.
Students will receive a list of the courses in which they will be enrolled
in fall 2011 and be invited to complete their registration during the
Lagniappe weekend through fiscal clearance and health clearance. This will
save time in the fall to avoid the rush of everyone else trying to register
at the same time.
Many fun and informative activities are planned for the participants. It
will be a weekend to remember.
Where will I stay?
Lagniappe students are invited to stay in the residence halls on campus to get a taste of student life at Xavier. Non-local students will be given preference for campus accommodations and space is limited. Parents will have to make their own lodging arrangements and hotel information is forthcoming. Delicious meals will be provided
When will I learn more about the Lagniappe Weekend?
Within the next two weeks, you will receive a formal letter inviting you to register and more details will be provided at that time. Please check this website periodically for more updates.
Why is this weekend mandatory for regional students?
Regional students have the advantage of location and access to the summer offerings at Xavier. This invitational weekend will start the process of easing students’ transition into the University environment. We strive to make our fall registration processes as convenient and smooth as possible and completing some of the registration and orientation activities in the summer will facilitate this. Students who participate in the Lagniappe Weekend are still expected to attend orientation activities in the fall.
