St. Katharine Drexel Chapel
Opening Ceremonies -
October 6-11, 2012
The new St. Katharine Drexel Chapel will be officially dedicated
with
a series of activities the week of Oct. 6-11. Scheduled activities include the
dedication and consecration Mass with New Orleans Archbishop Gregory
Aymond
serving as the principal celebrant. Also expected to attend are many of
the
U.S. African American bishops, sisters from the SBS Motherhouse,
and famed architect Cesar Pelli.
Special individual
Masses
will be celebrated for alumni, faculty, staff,
and students.Other scheduled opening week activities include concerts by the
Campus
Ministry
Gospel
Choir,
the XU Department of Music, and gospel choirs from across
the
New Orleans area.
There will also be a presentation on the life of St. Katharine Drexel,
a city-wide
ecumenical
service for local religious clergy,
on-campus receptions
and personal tours..
Due to the limited seating capacity of the chapel (450 seats),
some events are by invitation only.
