The Department of English at Xavier University of Louisiana, a liberal arts, Catholic, Historically Black University, located in New Orleans, Louisiana, invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in the long 18th century, including the Romantics. The position is tenure track and begins in August 2012. The applications deadline is November 15, 2011.
Qualifications: Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in English literature with a specialization in 18th century literature, at least three years of teaching experience, which demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, particularly, undergraduate teaching, and a record of serious scholarship and publications in scholarly journals.
Duties and responsibilities: The normal teaching load is four courses per semester (12 hours) with opportunities for course release. Courses in freshman composition and introductory literature as well as the long 18th century will be assigned. The position also requires departmental and university service and student advising.

History
The Department of History at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applications for a tenure track position in African American History. The primary teaching responsibilities will include both halves of the African American and the world civilizations surveys, with opportunities to teach other upper level courses in area of specialty. Associate Director
Xavier University of Louisiana, an historically black Catholic university seeks a qualified individual for the position of Associate Library Director.
The Associate Director is responsible for day-to-day supervision of all library departments, takes a leadership role in the setting of departmental goals and assessment of progress and in developing and maintaining a system of information literacy education. Other responsibilities include training and supervising all Library faculty members assigned to teaching information literacy instruction, orienting new Library faculty members, directing the Library Liaison program, and acting as coordinator of continuing education for all Library faculty and staff. The associate director also assumes control of Library operations in the Director’s absence, and represents him at on- and off-campus meetings when necessary.
Qualifications for this position include:
- Master’s Degree in Library or information science from an ALA accredited program. Second master’s or Ph.D. degree preferred.
- At least ten years of progressively responsible experience in academic libraries, preferably at the department head level or higher.
- Evidence of at least seven years of supervisory experience of librarians and support staff.
- Evidence of participation in strategic planning initiatives.
- Evidence of leadership and innovation in the management of print, digital, and consortia collections.
- Evidence of professional engagement and analytical insight involving library collections, publishing, library technology, library consortia, management, scholarly communication and research.
- Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with a wide range of library and university colleagues.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.

Electronic Resources Librarian
Xavier University of Louisiana, an historically black and Catholic institution, seeks a qualified applicant for the position of Electronic Resources Librarian.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing leadership in the management and procurement of electronic resources, including databases, e-books, and electronic serials. This includes:
- order, renewal and cancellation decisions
- coordination of Serials Solutions
- license review and negotiation
- coordination of license terms management
- Collecting and analyzing usage data to assist in selection decisions
- Troubleshooting access problems
- Promoting public awareness and use of electronic resources
- Coordinating development of content for the Library’s web page
- Participating in Information Literacy instruction
- Acting as collection development liaison to several faculty departments
Qualifications include:
- ALA accredited Master’s Degree
- Knowledge and experience with federated search tools
- At least two years experience with electronic resource orders, activation, maintenance, renewals, cancellations, and troubleshooting, in an academic library preferred
- Ability to work pleasantly and cooperatively with faculty, staff, and students
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a team-based environment
- Ability to set and attain goals independently
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities in a time-sensitive environment
- Evidence of supervisory experience preferred
- Possession of strong written and oral communication skills
