The Department of Communications at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applications for a tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor in the area of print journalism to begin August of 2008. Candidates should possess evidence of teaching excellence and a scholarly agenda.
Ph.D. with professional/teaching experience required; ABD with extensive professional/teaching experience considered. Successful candidates will teach courses in feature writing, news editing, writing for print media and general mass communication courses. English Department – English Renaissance Literature
The English Department at Xavier University of Louisiana, a liberal arts, Catholic, Historically Black University invites applications for a specialist in English Renaissance literature, rank open. This 9-month tenure-track faculty appointment begins August, 2008.
Qualifications:
Successful applicants must have:
Ph.D. in English or comparative literature, with a concentration in English Renaissance literature;
Experience teaching courses in their field as well as first-year college writing courses;
Scholarship in Renaissance literature.
Responsibilities include the following:
Teach classes in Shakespeare and Renaissance;
Teach classes in the core curriculum, including composition, introduction to literature, and world literature;
Participate actively in the English Department and College of Arts and Sciences;
Continue to conduct literary scholarship.

Library - Non-Tenure track position - Electronic Resources Librarian
Reporting to the Associate Library Director, responsibilities include maintenance of networked electronic resources, continued development of electronic resources and services, instructional services, liaising to academic departments, interpretation and representation of license/contract terms of electronic resources. Assists in development/ delivery of information environment that advances use of library services and user resource discovery. Identifies emerging technologies with potential for new/improved library services. Provides technical leadership.
Qualifications
ALA accredited Masters Degree (or equivalent), professional experience in the area of electronic resources. Knowledge of issues related to electronic resources management. Understanding of library services, operations, and assessment. Experience in designing and maintaining online resources. Knowledge of best practices and current trends, especially in area of librarianship, electronic resources/services, and higher education. Knowledge of ACRL's Information Literacy Standards, issues related to contract/license interpretation, fair use issues, other use rights. Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal skills. Ability to perform detailed work accurately. Work independently and in team settings. Evidence of ongoing professional development.

Library - Non-Tenure track position - Reference Librarian
Xavier University of Louisiana, a Catholic, historically Black university, seeks one Reference Librarian.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The candidate should be a creative and energetic reference librarian who will participate in general reference and instructional services within the Library Resource Center 's collegial faculty. The Reference Librarian will share responsibility for shaping excellence of user-centered library services and collections while advancing the library's role in the University. The candidate will work closely with other members of the library faculty to provide reference services, participate as a member of the reference/access services team and be a contact point at the reference desk for the University's diverse faculty, staff and student body. The candidate will serve as a liaison to some academic departments, evaluating and selecting materials for the library collection. The librarian will provide services using a variety of expanding resources, both web-based and traditional print. Teaching is also a component of service, to this end; the candidate will teach classes in library instruction. The Research Librarian reports to the Assistant University Librarian for Access Services.
Qualifications:
A MLS (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program. Professional reference experience at an academic library with a diverse student body is preferred. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrable ability to promote teamwork. Experience with both print and web-based reference sources, and individual and group library instruction, is desired.
