Master of Theology

This program is offered as an extension of the Institute for Black Catholic Studies (IBCS). The purpose of the IBCS is to provide a resource and research center for the study of the Black Catholic community in the United States.

Founded in 1980, the Institute for Black Catholic Studies (IBCS) of Xavier University of Louisiana offers programs in pastoral ministries, religious education and pastoral theology taught from the perspective of the Christian faith expressed in the Black religious community.

Master of Theology (Th.M.) Program
Master's in Pastoral Theology (A minimum of five summers)

The Master of Theology program is the only graduate program in Black Catholic Theology in the United States. It was designed to assist those ministering to Black Catholics and the broader African-American community. Its primary purpose is to develop a deeper understanding of the major themes of Catholic tradition as interpreted through African and African-American cultural experience and thought.
