Admission Information
NOTICE TO ALL PHARMACY STUDENTS
Students -
Register with Xavier University
All students are requested to register with the University to facilitate
our continued planning for re-opening. First Professional Year
students must register with the University in order to retain their
seats when classes resume in January.
First year pharmacy students must go to the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy
website, download the application for a student intern permit and follow
the instructions to complete the application process.

Q: I am interested in applying to the College of Pharmacy for the Fall 2006
academic year. Where can I get an application?
A: You can complete an application on-line at the website: www.xula.edu by
selecting the link for Admission or by using the convenient link for admission
information on this page. This is the method that is preferred for applying
to the College of Pharmacy. The application can also be downloaded from this
site for mailing if you experience trouble completing it on-line.
Q: Has the deadline changed?
A: The deadline for applications has been extended. The tentative due date
for the application is January 31, 2006. The tentative deadline for all supporting
documents (e.g. transcripts, letters of recommendation, etc.) is February 15,
2006. Please continue to watch the Xavier University website for confirmation
of these dates.
Q: Where do I send my application?
A: If you are mailing an application, it should be mailed to the normal university
address below. Mail will be automatically forwarded by the Post Office to the
appropriate location.

Q: I mailed my application before the storm. Can you tell me if it has been
received?
A: Currently we are unable to verify the receipt of any applications. In January,
the Office of Student Affairs will send out letters confirming the receipt
of all applications that have arrived during
Q: I am a P1 student and I would like to begin obtaining internship hours
as required by the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy. The Louisiana Board of Pharmacy
requires the College to send an official list of students. Can you tell me
if this can be done?
A: A list of the students in the P1 class has been sent to the Louisiana Board
of Pharmacy. The Board requires an extensive background check before a permit
is issued. It is estimated that it will take about 4 weeks before the permits
will be issued.
Q: I am a P1 student in Illinois and I would like to begin obtaining internship
hours. Can you tell me what I should do?
A: Students should contact the Board of Pharmacy in the state in which they
wish to obtain hours and follow the directions of that Board. The Louisiana
Board of Pharmacy will accept any hours that have been approved by any other
state Board.
Q: I am a P4 student and before Katrina I was expecting a refund check from
financial aid. I never requested it before. However, because I will be beginning
rotations in October, I was wondering if there is any way to obtain my refund
check.
A: Since the storm, the University computer servers have not been operational.
Although the website is functional on a limited basis, the Banner Financial
system is still not operational. Every effort is being made to get the system
back in operation. Until that time there is no available record of the financial
aid status of students. When the system is operational, these records will
be available and the P4 students who are completing their Xavier experiential
rotations will be able to receive refund checks.

Q. When is the Xavier University College of Pharmacy expected to reopen?
A. Xavier will resume classes on January 4, 2006. Using a revised
calendar which continues from January through the end of Summer 2006, Xavier
plans to complete the full 2005-06 academic year.
Q. Will the University reopen in New Orleans?
A. The Xavier administration is still in the process of assessing the damage
to its facilities. If the classrooms and facilities in New Orleans are not
suitable for occupancy by January, Xavier will resume classes in one or more
alternate sites to be determined.
Q. As a P1, P2 and P3 student, will I be able to enroll in classes for credit
at other institutions offering Pharm.D. programs?
A. Wayne Harris, Ph.D., dean of the Xavier School of Pharmacy, advises P1,
P2 and P3 pharmacy students to not enroll in another pharmacy degree program
this fall since Xavier classes will resume in January. Using a revised academic
calendar, all first, second and third-year professional pharmacy students
will have an opportunity to complete the 2005-2006 academic year through
Xavier between January and the end of summer 2006. Credits earned at other
pharmacy institutions will be evaluated for transfer back to Xavier but may
not be applied to the same course in Xavier's curriculum.
Q. I am a P4 student and was scheduled to do my experiential learning on-site
in New Orleans or the surrounding area. I’ve just learned that in the
aftermath of Hurricane Katrina that the site is not operational. Will I be
able to do my experiential learning at another location?
A. Pharmacy schools and colleges across the country have offered replacement
rotations for Xavier and University of Louisiana — Monroe. AACP is
helping to coordinate this effort with member schools. More information will
be forthcoming.
Q. I was planning on applying to the College of Pharmacy at Xavier University.
Now that the University is not expected to be operational until January 2006,
when can I inquire about applying to the School of Pharmacy for the Fall
2006 entering class?
A. Xavier's published application deadline for the Fall 2006 entering class
is December 15, however, this deadline may be extended. Applicants should
visit the Xavier Web site in October for updated admissions information.

Q. I was planning on obtaining my transcripts, but have been unable to reach
anyone. What happens if the school is unable to retrieve my transcripts in
a timely manner?
A. Due to the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina, Xavier's office of records
is currently closed and unable to generate official transcripts at this time.
If you are required to submit your official university transcripts to another
institution or organization, you may wish to submit a photocopy of your student
issued transcript (or grade report) with a letter indicating why an official
copy from Xavier's registrar's office is not currently available. The institution
or organization requesting the transcript may temporarily waive the official
transcript requirement until Xavier is able to generate official records
once again.
Q. I am not certain that I want to continue at Xavier University in the
aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and would like to transfer to another university
that offers a Pharm.D. program? If the records are irretrievable, will I
need to start over again at another institution?
A. The institution that you are applying to may choose to temporarily waive
any official documents they would need to begin the transfer process, however
that decision is up to the individual institution and may vary from school
to school. Please check with the institution that you are applying to on
whether you will be able to pick up where you left off in your studies.
Q. I depend on my financial aid to fund my education. Will I be able to
transfer my funds from Xavier to another institution where I plan to take
classes in the interim?
A. The U.S. Department of Education announced a new provision in their regulations
that permits colleges to give students transferring from institutions affected
by Katrina the federal financial aid they originally qualified for, even
if the aid was already disbursed. Education Department officials said they
would work over the next several weeks to simplify the aid-disbursement process
for colleges enrolling students from Gulf Coast institutions.
Pharmacy students with specific questions are directed to send emails to Dr.

Q: Could you please send me some information about your college and your pharmacy program?
A: Please submit your request to College of Pharmacy, Office of Student Affairs.
Q: Do you accept transfer of pre-pharmacy credits?
A: Yes, as long as it is from an accredited University or Community College.
Q: Do you require a bachelors degree?
A: No, we do not require a Bachelor's degree.
Q: I was wondering if you require the PCAT and PharmCas
for admission to the School of Pharmacy.
A: We do not require either the PCAT or the PharmCas.
Q: What are the deadlines for the Pharmacy Programs?
A: The deadline to apply to Xavier University through the the College of Arts and Sciences is March 1 for Freshman and June1 for transfer students for the Fall Semester. Pre Pharmacy Applicants are required to apply through CAS.
The deadline to apply to College of Pharmacy is December 15. All forms have to be at the College of Pharmacy, Office of Student Affairs on that date.
Q: Does Xavier offered financial assistance?

Q: Is there an early decision deadline for your pharmacy program?
A: There is no early decision deadline.
Q: How long is the pharmacy school program?
A: The College of Pharmacy Program is a four year curriculum. Two years of Pre Pharmacy is required, followed by four years of Pharmacy school.
Q: What is the minimum GPA that you
require in order to get accepted into your pharmacy school?
A: The minimum GPA for acceptance to College of Pharmacy is 2.5 in prerequisites.
Q: How do I apply?
A: To apply to College of Pharmacy, see our application page. To apply to pre pharmacy, see Office of Admissions.
Q: If I was once enrolled in Pre Pharmacy, and completed at another University, can I still apply to College of Pharmacy?
A: Yes, you can apply, but please submit a readmissions form through Office of Registrar.
Q: I notice the general application for admission. Please direct me to the pharmacy application on line.
A: The general application for admission to Xavier is the one application to fill out, as long as you have the Letters of Recommendation and Pre-Pharmacy Requirements. If you apply online, your other documents should be mailed to College of Pharmacy, Office of Student Affairs. If you apply using our downloadable application, you may submit that application to either Office of Admissions or College of Pharmacy, Office of Student Affairs.
Q: I would like to know if some of my credits from my BS
would be carried over if I get admitted in the PharmD program.
A: All International transcripts must be evaluated by a professional evaluation service. Whatever credits are determined to be acceptable will be counted towards degree.

Q: How many
words does the statement of interest have to be?
A: At least 250 typed words.
Q: When can I call to schedule an interview?
A: The selection committee will notify you by phone if you have been selected for an interview.
Q: If I apply to your pharmacy school is the interview guaranteed?
A: No.
Q: Is there an additional fee for out of state students?
A: No, the fee of $25 is the same for in-state, out of state, or international applicants.
Q: Do I have to have my high school counselor fill out a recommendation?
A: High School applicants are required to have a counselor's recommendation, however transfer students only require a science, math, or health professional to fill out the Recommendation.
