Convocation Academic Center / Gym Replacement

Project Location:
Across Washington Avenue from the Norman C. Francis Science Complex is where the Convocation Academic Center will be constructed. It will be located on the block of Short Street between Palm and Stroelitz Streets.

Project Description:
The Xavier University community—and that of New Orleans—can prepare to see the newest multipurpose arena in the city. This 97,597 square foot facility, with the capability of accommodating 4,500 people, is where the university’s convocations and Baccalaureate ceremonies will be, in addition to sports games, tournaments, and concerts, to name a few of its many functions. The Convocation Academic Center will double as the new gymnasium of Xavier University as well, replacing our current gym that was declared over 50% damaged from hurricane Katrina. The CAC will also feature a state of the art video replay scoreboard / display screen. This project is scheduled for completion in June of 2012. Our goal is to achieve Silver LEED Certification.
