Art Village

We have moved forward on the Art Department’s relocation to the Boh property in Gert Town, which will provide the Art Department with 26,500 sq. ft. of building space for current needs and future growth. We have completed the interior renovations to Building A, and the sculpture and ceramics classes are presently occupying this space.
We are moving forward with Phase Two of this project, which should be completed by the end of December 2002. Phase Two includes the renovation of Building C to accommodate art education, computer graphics, a lecture room and faculty offices. Phase Three, the renovations of Building D, will include accommodations for drawing/painting, photography, printmaking and faculty offices. If we can obtain access to this facility, and obtain additional funding, we can have this facility ready for the fall semester 2002. Because of the known expenses associated with renovating the other buildings on the square and some unknown factors, we are giving strong consideration to demolishing buildings B and E instead of renovating them. So far, the Title III grant has been the sole source of funding to this project. The Art Department and Institutional Advancement both feel that they can raise additional funds so that we can continue from phase to phase without interruptions.
