Employment Opportunities

Internships with the AFL-CIO in Louisiana

This is Patrick Scott with the AFL-CIO Organizing Institute. I am writing to let you know that the AFL-CIO Organizing Institute is looking for talented and energetic students to intern with the AFL-CIO on the Employee Free Choice Act Campaign. The AFL-CIO is working across Louisiana and across the country to educate working families on behalf of the Employee Free Choice Act, which would allow workers to have a fairer process to join unions should a majority of them choose to do so with in their workplace.

We are currently looking for a selective and dedicated college students across the state of Louisiana to work as interns on this Campaign. Responsibilities of the interns will be to increase community awareness and support for the passage of the Employee Free Choice Act through letter-writing campaigns, community education forums around Employee Free Choice and through working to build coalitions with local allies in their communities across Louisiana.

This internship is for students interested in becoming involved in social and economic justice issues. Although this internship in not paid, students will work within an energetic team of their peers to be as creative as they possibly can to increase community support for this Act. We would like for students selected as interns to commit 8-10 hours per week to intern on the campaign. Also, our goal is for students to receive a minimum three hours of academic credit applied to fulfilling their graudation requirements. This internship will run through Friday, May 1, 2009.

I will be reaching out to you soon to talk with you about this exciting opportunity for your students. However you can feel free to contact me should you need more information. Also, feel free to pass this information along to your students and other faculty and please encourage your students to consider this internship and they can contact me directly. I am including a flyer for more information on the internship and the Employee Free Choice Act.

I thank you for getting the word out about this internship on your campus.
