Research Interests:
General interests include the effectiveness of psychotherapy, cultural competency, black male success, Diversity/multicultural competency/inclusion issues (broadly defined), training and supervision.

Current Research Efforts:
Black male experiences in higher education, Black women and the culture of drinking in college, HBCU's and mental health, and Perceptions of LGBTQIA: What Lens are you using?

Teaching Interests:
Research/Experimental Methodology, Cultural Competency, Multicultural/Cultural Psychology, Theories of Psychotherapy/Counseling, Clinical Practice, Supervision/Training.

Bio
I completed my doctoral studies in Clinical Psychology at Jackson State University. To complete my doctoral training, I completed my pre-doctoral internship at the Counseling and Testing Center at the University of Akron, Akron, OH. Prior to joining the faculty at Xavier University of Louisiana, Dr. Turner served as a Senior Staff Psychologist at the University of West Florida in Pensacola where he served dually as the Outreach and Diversity Coordinator while at UWF. During his tenure at UWF, Dr. Turner also served as a faculty associate in the Psychology Department and the College Student Affairs Administration Department, teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses.

I am a native of New Orleans, LA., where I graduated from Isidore Newman High School. I earned an athletic scholarship to Southern University and A & M College where I was a four year letter winner as member of the 1995, 1997 and 1998 Black College National Champion Football Team. I also graduated Cum Laude.
