Welcome to “Research Connect”, CUR’s directory of research opportunities for XULA students. On Research Connect you might find a community-based research internship that aligns with your career interests or a faculty research project that ignites your curiosity.  Please review each program to see which best aligns with your goals. 

Research Consultations
XULA STUDENTS: Do you need one-on-one advising to help find, apply to, or navigate research opportunities?  You can schedule a Research Consultation here!  If the listed appointment times conflict with your class schedule, please send three days/times that you are available to Dr. Grant at jgrant4@xula.edu

XULA Research Programs

Maximizing Access to Research Careers (MARC) Program
The purpose of the MARC program at Xavier University of Louisiana is to prepare underrepresented undergraduate honor students for success in Ph.D. or M.D. /Ph.D. programs. This program is funded by the National Institutes of Health.



Participants:

10 MARC Scholars are sponsored annually

Eligibility:

At least 3.0 GPA, Sophomores, Major in biology, chemistry or biochemistry, computer science, physics, mathematics, and or psychology

What can MARC do for you?

  • 60% tuition/mandatory fees
  • Monthly stipend
  • Research supply and conference travel funds
  • Summer program-related travel costs
  • Placement with a primary research mentor at XULA

How to Apply

To apply for BUILD or MARC, please complete the common application HERE as well as the IDP HERE. Applications can be entered at any time starting Friday, September 16. Review of completed applications will begin on October 17. All applications completed by November 4 will be reviewed.

Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program (McNair Program)
The purpose of the McNair program is to increase the numbers of first-generation, low-income and underrepresented students completing doctoral programs (PhD.) This program is funded by the U.S. Department of Education.



Participants:

30 McNair Scholars are sponsored annually

Eligibility:

At least 3.0 GPA, Sophomore (at least 29 credit hours), Good standing with University, Low-income/first generation and/or underrepresented eligibility

What can McNair do for you?

  • $2800 Research stipend
  • Travel funds
  • GRE Prep courses
  • GRE Fee reduction waiver (provided in junior year)
  • Graduate School Application fee waivers
  • Provided campus visits to potential schools
  • Academic Support
  • Graduate Admissions Preparation Workshops

NOTE: McNair scholars can also be RISE or MARC scholars but you cannot receive a stipend from both programs.
