Dr. Vimal Kishore is the Bynum and Sons, Inc. Professor of Pharmacy at Xavier University of Louisiana College of Pharmacy where he is currently serving as the Chairman of the Division of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences since August 2009. He also served in the same capacity during the period of 1991-2001, and as the Director of Research for the College of Pharmacy from1993-1999. Dr. Kishore received his Ph. D. in medicinal chemistry from King George’s Medical College, University of Lucknow, India in 1976. He did postdoctoral studies at the University of North Dakota and at the University of Kansas, and was a visiting scientist at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Dr. Kishore joined the Xavier University College of Pharmacy as a faculty in 1983.
As a pharmacy educator, Dr. Kishore teaches courses in principles of drug action, medicinal chemistry, and in research methods and literature evaluation. As a pharmaceutical science researcher, Dr. Kishore has published extensively in areas of inflammation, radioprotection, and novel drug formulations, and he holds two U.S. patents on novel anti-inflammatory agents. Dr. Kishore current research efforts are directed towards development of multifunctional nano-particles for targeted drug delivery of a variety of therapeutic agents including amifostine and doxorubicin. Additionally, because of his commitment to promote the role of the community pharmacist in public health, Dr. Kishore is also conducting studies on whether brief interventions delivered by community pharmacists can be effective in reducing hazardous alcohol abuse and risky sexual behavior in patients.
