In the not so distant past, curricula in medical and pharmacy schools across the nation were absent of topics specifically related to women's
health. Over the last fifteen years, particular emphasis has been placed on the many ways in which the genders do in fact differ.
In the College of Pharmacy, the women's health series of the DSM III course and the APPE: Ambulatory Care- Women's Health Clinical Clerkship place major emphasis on four areas: cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, menopause/osteoporosis and depression. Other conditions
that primarily affect females (e.g. lupus, FSD, endometriosis, etc.) are also studied.
The Office on Women's Health (OWH) in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is the government's champion and focal point for women's health issues and continues to serve as an invaluable resource for the most up-to-date information in this arena.
