Course Substitutions & Limitations
seporator

The College of Pharmacy will evaluate courses to determine if they are equivalent to the corresponding Xavier University pre-requisite course.  As a general rule, any course with the words “Fundamentals of”, “Foundations of”, “Principles of”, “Introduction to”, “Introductory”, or “Elementary” in the title will have to be reviewed.

Any student who would like to have a course evaluated must submit the following:

  • Course Substitution form (click here to download the form).
  • Course syllabus for each course that will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee.

Submission of the course substitution form and the required documents does not guarantee approval of the course(s) under review.  Each student will be held responsible for taking any course(s) that is/are not approved.

Priority will be given to students who plan to enroll during the Fall 2015 semester.  Students will be notified via e-mail regarding the decision.

Please submit the required documents to the address provided below.

Five-Year Limit on Math and Science Courses

The College of Pharmacy will not accept math or science courses taken more than five (5) years prior to the year the student applies to the program.  Therefore, any math or science courses taken before January 2010 will not be accepted.  The College of Pharmacy will use each grade (including Ds and Fs) received in any of the pre-requisite course work to calculate the cumulative and the math-science grade point average.  For example, if a student receives a “D” and an “A” in an Organic Chemistry course, then both grades will be used to calculate the cumulative and math-science grade point average.

Students who wish to appeal the five-year rule must submit the following:

  • Appeal Form
  • An official transcript of all coursework completed by the student.

Submission of an appeal form does not guarantee approval of the course(s) under review.  Each student will be held responsible for re-taking any course(s) that is/are not approved by the Admissions Committee.

Priority will be given to students who plan to enroll during the Fall 2015 semester.  Students will be notified via e-mail regarding the Committee’s decision on their appeal.

The appeal form and transcript(s) should be submitted to the address provided below.  The deadline to submit the documents is November 3, 2014.
