Xavier University of Louisiana College of Pharmacy was established in 1927 for the purpose of educating blacks and other minority students to become highly trained professionals and leaders in the field of pharmacy.  The College of Pharmacy offers the entry-level Pharm.D. degree as the only academic program and has over 600 students in the     
professional program.

  • The College ranks among the nation’s Top 20 colleges of pharmacy when it comes to research funding by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), according to the 2009 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy report.
  • The College has moved into its new Qatar Pavilion, a $29 million expansion adding 60,000 square feet to our current facilities.  A dedication ceremony will be held in mid-October.
  • Dr. Leonard Jack, Associate Dean for Research and Director, Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities Research and Education (CMHDRE) edited a book entitled, Diabetes in Black America – Public Health and Clinical Solutions to a National Crisis.  (Hilton Publishing; May 2010)
  • Clinical faculty member, Dr. Sarah Al-Dahir (’06) was awarded a Fulbright Scholar and will spend a year teaching Nutrition, with a focus on Nutrition Support in the Middle East at Qatar University College of Pharmacy.
  • The College of Pharmacy opened the Xavier University of Louisiana Health and Wellness Center in July 2009.
  • The College of Pharmacy hosted a Target Case Study Competition, which afforded teams of students the opportunity to present their ideas on how Target might implement newly proposed REMS for opiods to company executives.  The winning team consisting of P3 students Liliana Cosenza, Ifeanyi Onor, Elizabeth Barthelemy and Tammara Taylor received $4,000 in scholarships.
