AUGUST 2015 –Welcome to our newest faculty member, Dr. Elizabeth Whittington Cooper, a visiting professor who earned a Ph.D. from Howard University. Before coming to Xavier, Dr. Whittington Cooper was a Senior Lecturer at Portland State University, a Visiting Assistant Professor at Texas Southern University, and a Visiting Scholar at Brookhaven College. Her areas of research include race and gender dynamics in the perceptions of negotiations of sexual consent. She is currently examining how Black students at HBCUS negotiate sexual consent in casual sex relationships and the influence of parent and peer messages about sex.
